Kerala Prisons & Correctional Services (Management) Act 2010 stipulates that each jails shall constitute a grievance redressal committe and it shall be convened once in three months giving prior intimation to the inmates. Such committee shall receive complaints or representation from the prisoners in order to redress their grievances.

The grievances and complaints are being looked into by the concerned Superintendent and Prison Officers at different levels. The sealed Complaint boxes of the DGP & CS and concerned District and Sessions Judges have been installed in all prisons which are opened once in a month by the Director General of Prisons & Correctional Services and District and Sessions Judges respectively. The prisoners are free to send representations and complaints to National Human Rights Commission, State Human Rights Commission, Govt. Departments, Courts etc through the Superintendent of Prisons. More over the General Public can meet the concerned Prison Superintendents, Zonal Deputy Inspector Generals of Prisons and DGP&CS in connection with any of their grievances for redressal. The phone numbers of Director General of Prisons & Correctional Services and other senior officers are exhibitted in the website of Prisons Department and the public and close relatives of inmates are free to call in emergency situations to invite attention to any grievances for urgent redressal.
